This is my entry into the Modern Mini Challenge at Ellison Lane Quilts!
I was stumped for the longest time trying to figure out what to do for this challenge- should I try something new? Should I do improv? Should I make a mugrug or something really small? So many options but in the end, you can guess what I did! I went with my gut and ….. followed my heart.
A detail of the heart and stitching. I even *quilted* the thing with *metallic* thread! I know right! Am I crazy? It must have been serendipity as the thread did not break once. It knew it had to get the job done. Dropping the top tension by one “tick” seemed to help too.
So how I did it was I drew up the design and lettering- including my own handwriting- in Illustrator to size, then printed it out. I then pieced the big heart out of a million *mini* pieces and scraps of fabric. That part took an entire day.
Here’s a tip- Best Press is a total dream for projects like this. It makes the fabric nice and flat and crisp, perfect to apply the lettering to! LOVE it!
Then I used plain black cotton and fusible web for the lettering, and applied it to the heart, and did a machine blanket stitch around all of the edges.
Then I quilted it all up, bound it with more black to frame it and huzzah!! All done! It measures just under 30″x30″- phew!
SO much fun, and true to form, following my heart was the best way to go. Yippee!! I think I see more of these mini style wordy quilts in my future!
